the mind well-tamed brings ease

Welcome, traveler! I'm glad to meet you. Why don't you rest for a moment, or even for a while. There's no rush. May I offer you some coffee?

You can call me B. Young enough to have missed usenet, old enough to know that on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog.

My inspiration with this blog was 1) writing more without angst-ing over how 'good' my writing is, and 2) creating a pseudonymous personal space to think away from the usual social media channels and the usual discourse echo chambers. Not only is there's a hell of a lot happening on the internet all of the time - such a deluge that alas, I could never keep up with everything, however much I read! - social feeds incentivize posting for likes / shares / attention, so despite the opportunity to talk with strangers from across the globe, it feels like sincere connection and thoughtful discussion actually goes against the grain, and instead the norms are sarcastic quips, dunk fests, and insulting the "wrong" people while praising the "right" ones. I don't want to think like that, and I definitely don't want to act like that, either. So: This blog is a place away from the public square, out of the sun and noise and crowds, to think aloud and in good faith about whatever topics come to mind.

I'm also eager to support the indie and more-open web, and although nothing's ever certain, Herman has clearly thought about Bear in the long-term. It's satisfying too that my blog can be a part of a greater whole while still being my own particular space.

My email is cordelia-marlowe @ proton.me, if ever you'd want to reach out.

Let's rewild the web, and let's take care of the digital commons.

Wishing you ease,
B
